About Us
Women With a Vision Foundation, Inc. is a 501c(3) non-profit organization founded in 2009 in Atlanta, GA by three women who wanted to make a difference in the lives of domestic violence and substance abuse survivors. They were passionate about helping others and wanted to have a direct impact in the local communities.
Today, WWAV serves the Metro areas of Atlanta, Nashville and Richmond. We provide financial and knowledge based support to increase resources for women’s shelters, halfway houses, support groups, and other coalitions who aim to help survivors of domestic violence and substance abuse. Realizing the serious challenges women face, WWAV seeks to mentally, physically, and emotionally restore women to feel empowered and to avoid negative situations. We cultivate self-discovery, self-esteem, self-worth, self-determination, and self-sufficiency.
Why We Do What We Do
Teen Domestic Violence (TDV) is common. It affects millions of teens in the U.S. each year. Data from CDC’s Youth Risk Behavior Survey and the National Intimate Partner and Sexual Violence Survey indicate that:
Nearly 1 in 11 female and approximately 1 in 15 male high school students report having experienced physical dating violence in the last year.
About 1 in 9 female and 1 in 36 male high school students report having experienced sexual dating violence in the last year.
26% of women and 15% of men who were victims of contact sexual violence, physical violence, and/or stalking by an intimate partner in their lifetime first experienced these or other forms of violence by that partner before age 18.
The burden of TDV is not shared equally across all groups—sexual minority groups are disproportionately affected by all forms of violence, and some racial/ethnic minority groups are disproportionately affected by many types of violence.
